At this year’s Living Planet Symposium 2025 in Vienna, Fresh4Bio will be featured in session A.09.03 - Understanding the Arctic as a System taking place Friday 27th June 13:00-14.30 through a poster presentation. Rafael will present an overarching overview of the early results from the Fresh4Bio project in a poster with the title: Downstream Arctic Freshwater Impacts on Phytoplakton Dynamics on the East Greenland Shelf. The presentation will highlight how integrated in situ observations, satellite data, biogeochemical modeling, and AI-based approaches are being used to understand the links between freshwater export, water column stratification, and phytoplankton biomass variability, as indicated by chlorophyll-a concentrations. Preliminary findings reveal contrasting trends, including a significant decline in chlorophyll-a concentrations along the EGS shelf break and increased productivity in the Iceland Sea, likely driven by frontal activity. A high-level synthesis of these insights will be offered, contextualizing them within the broader objectives of the Fresh4Bio project and emphasizing their relevance for understanding carbon cycling and ecosystem responses in the rapidly changing Arctic-North Atlantic system.
